Ben Goodman, Senior Wine Buyer, VinoMofo

Ben Goodman began his career in wine the same way most people do - by working in restaurants and developing a passion for all things vinous.

After earning a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Maryland, Ben moved to Northern California and worked his way up from waiting tables to managing restaurants to writing a Gourmet Traveller award-winning wine list.

After returning to school to complete a Masters in Business, he crossed the Pacific to Australia to get his hands dirty working vintage in a vineyard on the Mornington Peninsula.

This led to roles as the Sales and Marketing Manager for several boutique wineries. Both experiences involved launching new brands and building a loyal client base from the ground up.

His next move was into wine distribution where he became the top sales rep for a national wine portfolio. In early 2018, Ben switched sides and became a Senior Wine Buyer for Vinomofo, the fastest-growing online wine retailer in Australia.

Ben's growth in the industry can be attributed to his keen attention to detail, his networking and relationship-building skills as well as his unwavering devotion to consistently doing the little things that many of his industry peers allow to fall by the wayside.

In his free time, he loves to hang out with his wife and son, play basketball and snowboard.

Vinomofo is a members-only wine site. Yes, they know it’s annoying to have to sign up, but they’re a community, and together they represent the most awesome tribe of wine lovers in the world, and that makes them very important to the wine industry. They represent the future and you’re in good company.

They also represent a revolution against the bowties and bullshit of the wine snobs and posers who think wine is for the chosen few elite and educated. It’s not. They think everybody should be able to enjoy good wine, without feeling intimidated.

The way people engage with wine now has changed and that’s a good thing. They want you to feel comfortable to share, to learn, to enjoy wine with them.

It’s free to join, but they ask you to respect the community, and respect the amazing producers who share their wines with them. The producers are legends, and we all have to do our bit to help sustain and grow their businesses, so they can keep making awesome wines.
